Membership & Registration

When is registration open?

Registration typically opens in the summer for the season that runs from fall through spring. For the 2026-27 season, we plan to have registration open in summer of 2026.

Can I join the club if I have never run before?

Yes. CRC welcomes beginners, including people who are brand new to running. At various times, the club supports beginner-friendly options such as walking groups or 5K-focused training. Availability and details are shared on the Run with Us page and through club communications.

Can I join the club if I don’t live in Cypress?

Yes. While CRC is based in Cypress, members come from across the greater Houston area.

Is registering with the club the same as signing up for a training plan?

No. CRC membership does not require committing to a specific training plan. Members choose which runs, workouts, or training opportunities to participate in based on their own goals and availability.

If I register with CRC, will I get a discount when I sign up for a race?

Sometimes. From time to time, local race directors offer discount codes to CRC members. When available, these are shared via email or in the members-only Facebook group. Discounts are not guaranteed and vary by race.

Training & Runs

Where do you run?

Most CRC runs take place from Sampson Elementary School in Cypress, Texas. Start locations vary depending on the workout, distance, and time of year and are shared in advance for each run. Check with your pace group leader for specifics.

When do you run?

Many group runs are held early in the morning on Saturdays, often around 6:00 a.m., though times and locations can vary. Check with your pace group leader for specifics, including location, start time, routes, distances, and pacing.

My kid has swim team / soccer / baseball on Saturday mornings. Do you ever schedule Sunday runs?

Club-supported long runs are typically scheduled on Saturday mornings. Members often coordinate informal Sunday runs by posting their planned distance, pace, and start time in the Facebook group to find others who want to join.

I run really slow. Will I have someone to run with?

Very likely. CRC includes runners of many abilities and paces, and we aim to be welcoming and inclusive. While not every pace is present at every run, members generally find others training at a similar level.

I run really fast. Will I have someone to run with?

Yes. CRC includes competitive and experienced runners across a range of faster paces, particularly during long runs and structured workouts.

Why do you start your morning runs so early?

Two main reasons: heat and life. In Cypress, temperatures rise quickly after sunrise, especially in warmer months, so early starts help keep runs safer and more comfortable. Early runs also allow members to finish in time for work, family, and other commitments.

Safety, Insurance & Participation

Do I participate at my own risk?

Yes. Running is an inherently physical activity, and participants are responsible for assessing their own fitness and safety. Members are expected to follow posted guidance and make smart decisions based on conditions and personal ability.

Still Have Questions?

The best place to ask is the CRC Facebook group. Experienced members are happy to help.
