About CRC

What is Cypress Running Crew?

Cypress Running Crew (CRC) is a member-run running community based in Cypress, TX. We bring together runners of all abilities — walkers, first-time 5K finishers, ultradistance trail athletes, and Boston-qualifying marathoners — through weekly group runs, training plans, group coaching, cheer tents at local races, and community events.

Is Cypress Running Crew related to Cypress Running Club?

Cypress Running Crew is a separate, independent nonprofit organization established in 2026 to serve the Cypress and northwest Houston running community. Many CRC members, group leaders and sponsors previously participated in Cypress Running Club, which was active in Coles Crossing beginning in 2010. CRC carries forward the same welcoming, all-paces spirit while operating as a new organization with its own name, leadership and nonprofit structure.

How long has CRC been around?

Cypress Running Crew was established in 2026 as a nonprofit organization. Many members of our community have been running together in Cypress since 2010, when the earlier Cypress Running Club was active in the area.

Who runs CRC?

CRC is entirely volunteer-run. There are no paid coaches. Group leaders and organizers are members who volunteer their time to plan runs, coordinate events, and keep things running smoothly.

Is CRC a registered nonprofit?

Yes. Cypress Running Crew is organized and recognized by the State of Texas as a nonprofit corporation.

Is CRC a member of the Road Runners Club of America?

Yes. Cypress Running Crew is a member club of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), a national organization supporting community-based running clubs. Our affiliation reflects CRC’s commitment to organized, safety-conscious and inclusive group running and provides access to established club resources, operational guidance and insurance programs.

Do I have to pay to join, or register to run with the group?

No payment or paid membership is required to run with CRC — all group runs are open to the public. First-time participants do need to complete a free waiver and acknowledgment form before their first run; you can find that on our Run With Us page. Paid membership is optional and gets you exclusive training plans, official CRC shirts and other swag, special discounts and offers from our sponsors, and invitations to private club socials and gatherings.

Where does CRC run?

Our primary group run is the Saturday long run, based out of Sampson Elementary School in Coles Crossing, starting at 6:00 am. Full details and current groups are on our Run With Us page.

Does CRC have sponsors?

Yes. Local businesses support CRC’s events, gear, and community activities. See our Our Sponsors page for the current list, or Become a Sponsor if you’re a business interested in supporting the club.

Membership & Registration

When is registration open?

For the 2026-27 season, registration opens July 4, 2026. See our Join CRC page.

Does registration close?

Registration is available year-round. However, for the 2026-2027 season, registrations completed by July 26, 2026 are guaranteed member shirts and swag. After that date, shirts and swag will be available while supplies last.

When will I get my goodie bag?

Goodie bag distribution is typically in September. Details —including timing, pickup options, and contents— are communicated directly to registered members. Availability and items may vary by season.

Can I join the club if I have never run before?

Yes. CRC welcomes beginners, including people who are brand new to running. At various times, the club supports beginner-friendly options such as walking groups or 5K-focused training. Availability and details are shared on the Run with Us page and through club communications.

Can I join the club if I don’t live in Cypress?

Yes. While CRC is based in Cypress, members come from across the greater Houston area. We have members on other continents, also!

Is registering with the club the same as signing up for a training plan?

No. CRC membership does not require committing to a specific training plan. Members choose which runs, workouts, or training opportunities to participate in based on their own goals and availability.

If I register with CRC, will I get a discount when I sign up for a race?

Sometimes. From time to time, local race directors offer discount codes to CRC members. When available, these are shared via email or in the members-only Facebook group. Discounts are not guaranteed and vary by race.

Do I need to be a member to participate?

No. Most weekly runs and beginner programs are open to the public at no cost. Membership helps support these programs.

Training & Runs

Where do you run?

Most CRC runs take place from Sampson Elementary School in Cypress, Texas. Start locations vary depending on the workout, distance, and time of year and are shared in advance for each run. Check with your pace group leader for specifics.

When do you run?

Many group runs are held early in the morning on Saturdays, often around 6:00 a.m., though times and locations can vary. Check with your pace group leader for specifics, including location, start time, routes, distances, and pacing.

My kid has swim team / soccer / baseball on Saturday mornings. Do you ever schedule Sunday runs?

Club-supported long runs are typically scheduled on Saturday mornings. Members often coordinate informal Sunday runs by posting their planned distance, pace, and start time in the Facebook group to find others who want to join.

I run really slow. Will I have someone to run with?

Very likely. CRC includes runners of many abilities and paces, and we aim to be welcoming and inclusive. While not every pace is present at every run, members generally find others training at a similar level.

I run really fast. Will I have someone to run with?

Yes. CRC includes competitive and experienced runners across a range of faster paces, particularly during long runs and structured workouts.

Why do you start your morning runs so early?

Two main reasons: heat and life. In Texas, temperatures rise quickly after sunrise, especially in warmer months, so early starts help keep runs safer and more comfortable. Early runs also allow members to finish in time for work, family, and other commitments.

Safety, Insurance & Participation

Do I participate at my own risk?

Yes. Running is an inherently physical activity, and participants are responsible for assessing their own fitness and safety. Members are expected to follow posted guidance and make smart decisions based on conditions and personal ability.

Does CRC carry liability insurance?

Yes. CRC carries general liability insurance for covered club activities through the RRCA insurance program. This coverage is designed primarily to protect the organization from covered liability claims; it is not a substitute for a participant’s personal health, accident or disability insurance. All participants must complete CRC’s waiver and remain responsible for assessing their own fitness, health and ability to participate safely.
